Today’s cosmetic procedures are making it easier than ever to achieve the beautiful look you desire, without having to undergo surgery. One of the most exciting advancements in this arena is the introduction of Kybella. This FDA approved treatment is an injectable substance that can permanently destroy unwanted fat cells found under your chin, giving you a sleeker, more defined profile, and making you dreaded double-chin a thing of the past!
About Submental Fullness
Submental fullness is the technical term for extra volume caused by stored fat cells in the area underneath your chin. Commonly referred to as a “double chin,” submental fullness can be caused by a variety of factors, which are not always tied to weight gain. Often times, this build-up of fat cells can be caused by genetics or aging, and may be difficult to get rid of through diet and exercise alone. In fact, many people who are in optimal physical condition suffer for submental fullness, making the condition a frustrating matter that up until now has required drastic measures to correct.
What is Kybella?
Kybella is the only FDA approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the area under the chin to improve your profile. The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.
When injected into the fat beneath your chin, Kybella actually destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin, revealing an improved profile below the chin and along the jawline. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not needed once you achieve your desired result.
Kybella has been the focus of a global clinical development program involving over 20 clinical studies, where more than 1,600 people were treated – so you can rest assured that this is a safe an effective method that will actually deliver the results you’re looking for!
What does the treatment process for Kybella involve?
Before starting treatment, your healthcare specialist will examine the area under and around your chin to determine if Kybella treatments are right for you. After the examination, a tailored treatment plan will be recommended based on your facial profile to help you reach your aesthetic goals.
Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments vary from patient to patient. During your consultation, your doctor will recommend the appropriate amount of treatments you should receive, based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal goals. Each Kybella treatment should be given at least one month apart, and you should not receive more than six treatments total. At each treatment, you will be given multiple small injections under your chin. Many patients experience visible results in only two to four treatments.
After your Kybella treatment, you will likely have some swelling in the injection area, as well as some bruising or numbness under your chin. The most common side effects are swelling, bruising, light pain and redness around the treatment area, and in most cases, you can resume your normal activities the day after your treatment. After about a week, the side effects should begin to subside completely, and treatment results will appear gradually as you progress through the series of Kybella injections.
