Liposuction on Long Island | Frequently Asked Questions

Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed and popular cosmetic procedures offered.  It is the art of surgically removing fat and contouring the body to reveal a smoother, more symmetrical, and attractive aesthetic.  When considering liposuction for the first time, patients often have many questions. Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery is one of the most trusted providers of liposuction on Long Island; we will answer some of the most frequently asked questions regarding liposuction.

How Is Liposuction Performed?

Liposuction on Long Island is performed by using a thin device that resembles a straw called a cannula.  The cannula penetrates the fat layers beneath your skin.  With careful maneuvering, unwanted fatty deposits are extracted via suction.

Am I A Good Candidate for Liposuction On Long Island?

Individual candidacy is something that can only be addressed during a consultation.  Generally, the best candidates for liposuction are men or women who have stubborn areas of fat unresponsive to diet and exercise.  Liposuction is not suitable for weight loss.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

Your procedural time will vary based on the specific work you are having done.  However, the average procedural time is between 45 minutes and 2.5 hours.

How Many Areas Can I Have Done During One Session?

It is best to have only three or four areas targeted during a liposuction session.  One session is usually enough to address all of your concerns. In the rare cases, more than one session is necessary. The second session can be performed after at least 48 hours after the first.

When Will I See Results?

You will see some results within the first month.  That said, it takes between six and twelve months before you will see your final results.  The timeline of what you can expect will be discussed with you in depth during your consultation.

Can I have Other Procedures Done With Liposuction?

This question is better addressed on a case-by-case basis.  However, for more significant procedures, we generally do not recommend pairing them with liposuction.

How Much Fat Can Be Removed?

The maximum amount of fat that can be removed during one surgery is five liters or eleven pounds. That said, the goal of liposuction on Long Island is not to remove as much fat as possible.  Rather, it is to strategically remove fat to achieve the best results.  It is, for this reason, that the skill of your surgeon is so important.
