What are Moles?

Moles are common marks on the skin that are usually dark brown spots. They are formed of clusters of pigmented cells, and they are typically harmless! They usually form and manifest on the skin during childhood and adolescence. However, sometimes they change during adulthood, which can sometimes indicate risk of a larger health issue.

Common traits of healthy, harmless moles include:

  • Remaining the same and not undergoing changes from month-to-month
  • Rounded shape with an even, clean border
  • Solid color (usually brown, but may vary)
  • Texture that is flat or slightly raised

If you have a mole that you are concerned about, we recommend a consultation with our team at one of our locations in New York or Florida. Most do not pose any risk, but being proactive is always a good idea!

Why Should I Monitor Moles?

As previously mentioned, moles that undergo changes can be indicators of harmful health risks. These changes may indicate melanoma or other forms of skin cancer. Melanoma is unfortunately one of the most common forms of cancer, but taking a proactive approach to your skin health can make a major difference in early detection.

Monitoring changes can be as easy as your ABCs! Changes to monitor include:

  • Asymmetry
  • Border
  • Color
  • Diameter
  • Evolving

While some changes may be dramatic, it is important to keep a watchful eye for the most subtle of changes.

What Is Mole Removal?

If one of your moles poses a risk to your health, there are treatment options available. We offer mole removal as a preventative method. There are different types of removal – excision, scraping, and shaving – and our team can help determine which is best for you.

Your health is important to us, but so are your cosmetic goals! This procedure may also be used if you are unhappy with the effect a mole is having on your appearance.

How much does Mole Removal cost?

The cost for Mole Removal will depend on several factors. The number of sessions will influence the final price, as will the severity of the cosmetic issues being addressed.

Reviews

“I must say I was so happy to find Dr. Greenberg. My son had a mole on his face that made him so self conscious and miserable. After doing a lot of research we decided to use Dr. Greenberg to remove the mole that was in the middle of his face. He was so kind to my 13 year old son and made him feel completely comfortable and after removing what had caused him to be embarrassed he is now mole free and you would never have known there was anything there to begin with. We are huge fans of Dr. Greenberg for his caring and kind way and for removing the mole without a trace.”

“I went to the dermatologist because I had a mole I needed to remove. Dr. Greenberg looked at my face and noticed that I had some sun (age) spots that he could remove painlessly and quickly with his new laser. I sat in the chair for a few minutes and the spots were removed. The spots are gone now. I get compliments from friends. They say things like, “what’s different?” or “did you get you get your haircut?” I simply smile and say, “thanks.””
