When you come in for your initial consultation with Dr. Greenberg, you will discuss your goals for treatment, and together you will determine a plan. During this time, you will be encouraged to ask any questions you may have regarding any stage of treatment.
Cheek implants come in different sizes and shapes and can be customized for any facial shape to provide a natural-looking enhancement. Facial implants made from silicone do not integrate with the natural tissue and can be safely removed later. Other materials, such as hydroxyapatite, will fuse with natural bone tissue and become a permanent part of your facial structure.
For patients who desire more volume in their cheeks, but feel hesitant about using implants, Dr. Greenberg can perform a cheek augmentation using fat transfer. This involves using liposuction to remove fat from one area of the body – usually the midsection – and injecting those purified fat cells into the cheeks.
Expectations
After the scope of your treatment plan and cost has been finalized and your surgery has been scheduled, Dr. Greenberg will give you a set of pre-operative instructions.
Typically, Dr. Greenberg will administer local anesthesia for a fat transfer procedure. If you are going to receive cheek implants, he will typically administer general anesthesia.
If cheek augmentation is being performed along with another surgery, the implants will be inserted through the incisions used for the other procedure. If it is a stand-alone procedure, small incisions will be made inside the mouth above the gum line, allowing Dr. Greenberg to place and secure your implants.
Post Procedure
There may be some temporary numbness or tingling immediately following your procedure, but this will gradually diminish over time. As swelling subsides, you will begin to notice the enhancements achieved with your cheek implants.
