The Inner Thigh Lift Technique

Do you find your thighs constantly rubbing together while standing or walking? Are your legs a constant source of frustration, when compared to the rest of your body’s curvature? While everyone’s body is unique, some areas are more difficult to tone, and the thighs are one such area.

With an inner thigh lift, patients can get rid of the excess skin and fat between their thighs, producing contours that are smoother and more attractive. But before undergoing this procedure or even agreeing to it, patients should understand what it entails. Use the following information to learn about the thigh lift techniques offered at our Manhattan office, and the benefits these techniques can provide to the right candidate.

What Is a Thigh Lift?

A thigh lift is a body contouring procedure that aims to reduce unwanted fat and skin from the thigh. By removing excess skin and contouring the tissue underneath, a plastic surgeon can reshape the thigh to better complement the rest of a patient’s body.

Although the procedure can be performed through multiple surgical methods, the steps are essentially the same. For an inner thigh lift, an incision is first made along the inside of the thigh, through which fat will be removed and/or contoured. Following this, loose skin will be removed, and the remaining skin will be pulled into place. The incision will be sutured shut and left to heal. With a successful recovery and good aftercare, patients can expect their results to last for many years.

Inner Thigh Lift Techniques

When deciding on inner thigh lift surgery, patients should consider a few factors in order to determine which technique is best suited to their needs. Namely, patients should question how much tissue they wish to remove, how large an area they want their results to comprise, and what kind of incisions they are willing to have. The two primary thigh lift techniques are as follows:

  • Inner thigh lift: In a conventional inner thigh lift, also called a medial thigh lift, the incision is confined to the crease where the thigh meets the pubic area. This relatively small incision allows for a scar that can be more easily concealed and an easier overall recovery. This technique allows a moderate amount of skin and fat to be removed, most notably from the upper inner thigh.
  • Extended inner thigh lift: In the extended technique, the incision is lengthened from the upper inner thigh downward to the knee. A longer incision results in more obvious scarring, but can help remove a large amount of unwanted tissue. This technique is most effective for patients who have experienced significant weight loss, and as a result, have a lot of remaining loose skin along their thighs.

Depending on the amount of fatty tissue present, liposuction may be used along with either of the above techniques. With liposuction, fat deposits can first be reduced and reshaped to produce a smoother, more aesthetically pleasing result under the skin. If you are primarily looking to reduce the fat in your thighs and still have good skin elasticity, liposuction alone may be a more appropriate procedure.

Candidates for an Inner Thigh Lift

As long as patients have excess skin and fat they are looking to remove from their inner thighs, they are most likely good candidates for an inner thigh lift. Of course, some candidates are better than others. When a patient still has some semblance of skin elasticity, he or she is more likely to have positive results with little risk of skin irregularities. Additionally, patients with a stable weight who do not plan on having a fluctuating body type will also benefit from long-lasting, reliable results.

In accordance with any plastic surgery procedure, a thigh lift requires that patients be in satisfactory general health. Systemic diseases and conditions that threaten one’s immune system pose additional risk factors, which may interfere with the surgery and recovery period. This includes but is not limited to heart disease, uncontrolled diabetes, liver disease, circulatory problems, and tobacco use.
