You’ve heard the story time and time again: a person eats right, exercises, and takes great care of themselves, and yet there’s just a little bit of stubborn body fat that will not go away. This is natural, unfortunately, but it doesn’t mean that there are no solutions out there. One sure way to get rid of the most stubborn pockets of body fat is to undergo liposuction.

When you visit our plastic surgery center, we’ll be sure to go over liposuction in full detail. Right now, we want to consider some of the basics about liposuction and then focus on why only a certain amount of fat can be removed during the surgery.

About Liposuction

Liposuction is an aesthetic fat removal procedure. During the surgery, a cannula is used to suck out pockets of fat in different parts of the body. Liposuction can be performed on the abdominal area, the buttocks, thighs, chest, upper arms, neckline, and even parts of the face as needed.

How much fat can be removed during liposuction?

This is generally up to the surgeon’s discretion, but ideally only a relatively small amount of fat should be removed during liposuction. This amount will be determined by considering the height and weight of the patient, the area of the body being treated, and the nature of the patient’s frame.

Why not more fat extraction during liposuction?

Liposuction is cosmetic and should never be performed for weight loss purposes. If a large volume of fat is removed from the body, it can increase the chance of major side effects and serious complications. In order to err on the side of patient safety and a complication-free recovery time, surgeons will only remove a certain amount of fat.

How to Maximize Fat Reduction During Liposuction

Before you undergo liposuction, it’s best for you to try to lose as much weight as possible through healthy means. That will involve eating right, exercising, and being as healthy as possible. By losing weight naturally and remaining healthy, you will greatly reduce the amount of fat around different parts of your body.

It may help to think of liposuction as a way to finely chisel the last of the fat from your frame. This puts more emphasis on your own health and wellness, and taking charge of your health and appearance is always a positive and empowering feeling.

Other Options for Advanced Body Contouring

Liposuction is not the only tool out there for getting a trim and fit-looking body. There are other options to consider that can tighten your skin, improve the tone and contour of other parts of your body, and help you look your absolute best. During your consultation at our practice, we will be sure to go over all of these options with you in greater detail.
