Superfoods for Super Skin

It should come as no surprise that this season we have been all about skin care. With the summer sun’s harmful rays blazing down in full swing, we cannot stress how important it is to protect yourself when enjoying the beautiful weather. However, protection isn’t only about covering up with lotions and cute accessories. Healthy skin is also in large part due to the things we choose to put inside of our bodies. So in keeping with the theme of the summer, we have compiled a list of dietary favorites for happy and healthy skin!
Water
We cannot begin this list without including our most essential sources of hydration, H20. Drinking water throughout the day will not only help to keep you feeling healthy, but it will also give your skin the nourishment it needs for a natural glow.
Green Veggies
According to Foods for Healthy Skin an article written by Dr. Susan Evans, dark leafy greens like spinach and kale are rich in antioxidants as well as vitamins C and E. These nutrients are great for helping to replenish the appearance of damaged skin.
Blueberries
Nutritionist Lisa Drayer, MA, RD and author of The Beauty Diet says the antioxidants in blueberries help to protect skin from untimely aging.  Whether they are mixed into a shake, thrown into hot or cold cereal or simply eaten as is, these are a delicious treat for a more radiant complexion!
Fish
Listed as one of the most “skin friendly” foods by the Mayo Clinic, Salmon, mackerel and other fatty fish are said to be crucial to a healthy complexion due to the high levels of essential fatty acids.
Almonds
Named a skin super-food by Women’s Health Magazine, almonds are rich in vitamin E, a natural sun blocker! Munching on a handful of these every day is a great way to help fight sun damage.
