When you read novels, consider how the author almost always features a very specific description for the noses of characters that are supposed to be prominent—good or bad. The same goes for films. In Disney movies, villains often feature highly dominant (often misshapen) noses to distinguish them. This trend seems to follow in many artistic franchises old and new. Artists do this because they know the nose frames the entire face, and it is often the first place our eyes are drawn to.
You’re born with the nose you’re born with—is what we’d say if this were the 1800’s. Thankfully, it’s the year 2019 and when you visit Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery, getting a rhinoplasty is an in and out experience with our professional team.

What is Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty (commonly referred to as a nose job) is a surgical procedure that is performed to reshape the nose. This is done by altering the nasal cartilage and make adjustments to the tiny bones in your nose to create the shape you desire. This procedure—like many, should only be performed by a qualified and highly experienced surgeon.
Rhinoplasty can be performed for medical reasons or for cosmetic reasons.
Should I Get a Rhinoplasty?
Your nose is for better or for worse, the most important trait on your face because it frames the rest of your face in accordance. While beauty is subjective, from our experiences in treating hundreds of clients over the years has shown us that there are some guidelines—in the United States at least.
If you are questioning whether you should get a rhinoplasty, come in for a free consultation at Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery in any one of our numerous New York locations, or come visit our Boca Raton, FL location! What Types of Rhinoplasty Are There?
Cosmetic rhinoplasty can be done with either open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty.
Closed rhinoplasty is the preference of Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery. In an open rhinoplasty procedure, tiny incisions are made inside of the nose so that the surgeon can access the inner structures from within the nasal passages. One of the major benefits of a closed rhinoplasty—and the reason it is preferred for us is that you will not experience any kind of external scarring. Additionally, the patient will benefit from faster healing times and minimal swelling.
Closed rhinoplasty is more complex and requires very skilled hands to perform. The reason it is more complex is that the procedure is done entirely within the nose. If that level of work is not necessary (as some changes are easier than others), then an open rhinoplasty may be better. These details can be sorted out during your consultation.
These procedures are done for cosmetic purposes, however, if you are requiring treatment for a deviated septum, a septoplasty must be performed. If you are in need of a septoplasty, the good news is that Dr. Greenberg can make additional cosmetic adjustments at the same time! You can get the benefit of better breathing as well using that chance to make the aesthetic changes you’ve always dreamed about!
How Long Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Take?
The surgery typically takes about one to two hours and is generally performed with local or general anesthesia depending on the procedure. Patients report only mild discomfort during recovery, so overall this surgery is very approachable for the majority of the population.
Recovery times depend on the patient’s recuperative abilities (generally speaking, younger people recover faster). Patients should allow for about a week before returning to normal activities.
Because you will be anesthetized for the operation, it is crucial that you get someone to drive you to and from the facility. For a list of things that you should avoid doing, refer to this handy informational page we have about the procedure.
A few quick important things you should consider for your recovery:
- Avoid blowing your nose as this can cause injury due to the intracranial pressure you’re creating.
- Naturally, avoid strenuous exercise for the same reasons above.
- For you fashionistas out there, it is imperative you avoid wearing glasses/sunglasses for about a month.
- You should not smoke two weeks before and after surgery.
- Lastly, avoid flying for 10 to 14 days as the altitude change can cause undue pressure in your nasal passages.
