Hair restoration treatments often consist of removing healthy hair follicular units (FU) from one portion of the head and implanting them into another. These procedures restore thinning hair in a natural way, utilizing the patient’s own organic materials. Receiving hair restoration can give you the confidence that may be missing since your hair started thinning. A full head of hair is a marker of youth and health, and restoring it can allow patients the chance to be happier with their appearance.

Types of Hair Restoration Performed by Dr. Greenberg

Since the inception of hair restoration procedures, there have been many revolutionary changes. What once required removing a strip from the back of the head now utilizes methods and technologies to remove individual grafts. Dr. Greenberg is experienced and competent in these techniques, providing his patients with customized care and optimized results. There are many different methods to choose from, and he will determine the best technique for your hair restoration needs during your private consultation.

NeoGraft

NeoGraft is an innovative and FDA-approved harvesting and implantation system that utilizes an instant FUE (follicular unit extraction) technique. This specialized method uses an automated technology that works to gently extract groupings of hair follicles from areas of denser hair growth.

The follicles are then precisely delivered to the targeted treatment area using the Neograft pneumatic controls. This “no touch” technology was designed with patient comfort in mind and offers natural-looking results for successful hair restoration.

Follicular Unit Micrografting

Follicular unit micrografting is the most popular hair restoration procedure. It will give you a hairline that looks and functions naturally. Hair grows naturally in small follicular units. These units consist of 1-3 hairs, oil glands, small muscles, nerves, blood vessels, and some collagen. (1)

In follicular unit micrografting, Dr. Greenberg takes individual follicular units from the back of your scalp and transplants them to the balding or thinning areas in the front. Once the follicular units are transplanted, they will continue to grow naturally. This hair transplant procedure is painless, takes just a couple of hours to complete, and is performed in Dr. Greenberg’s Long Island office.

Megasession Follicular Unit Micrografting

The Megasession is a variation of the follicular unit micrografting technique. The Megasession hair restoration technique transplants up to 2,000 follicular-unit micrografts in a single procedure lasting up to six hours. This procedure can be beneficial for patients who are looking to accelerate their results and have a better chance at successful transplantation. When a great quantity of follicles are harvested, there is a higher chance for your transplanted hairs to survive.

Benefits of Hair Restoration

There are many different benefits of receiving hair restoration surgery.

This procedure can:

  • Give patients a fuller, more aesthetically pleasing head of hair
  • Restore your natural hairline with your own hair
  • Cause virtually no scarring
  • Provide resistance to future balding or thinning
  • Be more cost effective than other hair loss solutions: usually a one-time procedure
  • Provide results using local anesthesia instead of general anesthesia
  • Result in a short recovery time

Ideal Candidate

Men and women who experience hair loss, including baldness or permanent thinning, as a result of factors such as age, hormones, or heredity frequently seek hair restoration surgery or hair transplant in Manhattan. The ideal candidate for hair restoration has enough healthy hair on the side and/or back of the head to be donated. Your scalp must be healthy and your expectations must be reasonable. If you are in good overall health, then hair transplant might be the perfect procedure to restore your hairline and your self confidence.

At our office, we are aware that hair thinning and loss can affect people of all ethnicities, including African Americans. To assist our patients in achieving their intended hair objectives, we provide special hair restoration techniques, including African American hair restoration, including afro textured hair transplants.

Personal Consultation at Greenberg Cosmetic Surgery

You will have a private meeting to talk about your hair loss and thinning to create your customized treatment plan. During your personal consultation, we will ask you questions about your medical history, current medications, and your expectations for hair restoration procedures.

We go to great lengths to make sure your desires are heard and met to ensure the best possible outcome. We understand that it can be stressful and anxiety-inducing to take steps toward restoring a head of hair, so we listen intently to make sure we fully understand your specific situation. Once we determine the right course of action, our staff will schedule your procedure date, as well as any follow up appointments.

Preparation

The best way to prepare for your hair restoration procedure is dependent on which technique and procedure plan Dr. Greenberg finds the most effective for you. If you are receiving FUE, you may be required to come to your procedure appointment with a portion or all of your hair cut very short. This helps with the extraction process.

During your consultation, we will give you all the information and instruction you will need in order to be ready for your treatment. It is important that you follow all the required steps to contribute to a successful surgery.

Recovery and Results of Hair Restoration

All the hair restoration techniques and procedures listed above focus on the patient’s comfort and optimize their results. Your recovery period will be short, allowing you the freedom to go back to your usual routine quickly and efficiently. Some patients will feel totally back to normal around their seventh postoperative day. You may experience some itching or irritation around your donor site and hairline, but you just avoid scratching. The donated hairs may fall out around the second week, but new hair will grow back in the weeks that follow. The results of a hair transplant are long-lasting. The implanted hairs will continue to grow for the rest of your life.

Corresponding & Complementary Procedures

ACP Hair Restoration

Autologous Conditioned Plasma, or ACP, hair restoration is a scalp rejuvenating treatment that utilizes the healing and restorative benefits of your own plasma. Plasma is a naturally occurring substance in the blood that supports healing and restoration within the body.

During treatment, this ultra-healing substance is spun in a centrifuge to separate it into its component parts. Then, the plasma portion is redelivered to the scalp, working to promote the regeneration of healthy tissue and collagen production. This is effective at reviving damaged hair follicles and supports their ability to grow natural hair once again. (2)

Reparative Hair Restoration Procedures

It is not uncommon for patients to look to Dr. Greenberg to repair poorly done hair restoration surgery performed elsewhere. Often, patients had their previous hair restoration done with outdated procedures or experienced complications that contributed to an unfavorable outcome.

The patients may be unhappy with an unnatural look, scarring, hairline placement, or hair density. Using state-of-the-art reparative hair restoration procedures, Dr. Greenberg can dramatically improve your hair and help give you the appearance you desire.

FAQ

Can hair restoration surgery treat all types of hair loss?

Hair restoration surgery is primarily effective in treating androgenetic alopecia, which is the most common form of hair loss in both men and women. However, it may not be suitable for other types of hair loss caused by factors such as autoimmune diseases, hormonal imbalances, or medical conditions. It is best to consult with a hair restoration specialist to determine the most appropriate treatment option for your specific type of hair loss.

How long does it take to see the results of hair restoration surgery?

Hair restoration is a gradual process, and it takes time for the transplanted hair follicles to establish themselves and start growing new hair. Typically, patients begin to see noticeable hair growth around three to six months after the procedure. Full results are usually achieved within 12 to 18 months, as the newly transplanted hair continues to grow naturally.
