Whether you’ve recently undergone substantial weight loss or simply struggle genetically, excess underarm skin can be a difficult problem to address. Often times once gravity pulls the upper arm skin down, the result is a flabby appearance that is typically unresponsive to diet and exercise. However, there is no need to despair!
An upper arm lift, also called brachioplasty, can reshape the arm and tighten the hanging skin. By removing extra fat, an upper arm lift dramatically reduces this sagging appearance and results in a firmer, more youthful looking contour.
Like all other procedures if you are considering a brachioplasty the first step is always a consultation. During this initial conversation Dr. Greenberg can best assess whether or not a procedure of this nature would be the best choice for you. After discussing the operation in detail, should you decide to move forward, the scheduled surgery is performed in a fully licensed, accredited ambulatory center.
The brachioplasty itself consists of removing excess skin and fat through incisions on the upper and under surface of the arm, or through suction. The remaining skin is then stretched, stitched into place and bandaged. The surgery takes approximately 1.5 hours after which you will be able to rest in recovery room until you are ready to go home.
A post-operative compression garment is worn to ensure proper healing, and complete recovery usually takes about two weeks. Post-operative checkups will also be scheduled for one or two days after surgery.
