Everything You Need to Know About Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, less formally known as a “nose job”, is a common plastic surgical procedure performed on men and women everyday worldwide. This surgery can be a great option for individuals hoping to correct the size of their nose, remove a “dorsal hump” or bump, change nose and or nostril width, define the tip, or correct breathing problems. If you think that nose surgery may be for you, here is a step by step guide for everything rhinoplasty.
The Consultation
The first step with all surgical procedures is of course the consultation. During this scheduled meeting with the doctor you will not only be able to ask questions and express concerns, but the doctor will have a chance to review your desires and specific anatomical issues. Dr. Greenberg makes it a priority to use this time to individualize the rhinoplasty procedure plan for each patient so that he may ensure the best overall results.
The Surgery
Typically, rhinoplasty takes about 1 hour with patients experiencing only mild discomfort during recovery. Incisions are generally made on the inside of the nose, eliminating external visibility. Underlying bone and cartilage is then re-shaped, giving the nose a natural contour. Many times, the nasal passage may need to be opened in conjunction with the rhinoplasty, which is called septoplasty. Slight bruising and swelling may occur because of this, but will subside in a few days.
Recovery
Patients are usually bandaged for three or four days, and normal activity may commence shortly after this period. Post-operative follow-ups are also conducted to assess healing.
