What is Male Breast Reduction?

Your Breast Reduction Consultation…

Dr. Greenberg will meet with you to discuss male breast reduction at his NY Manhattan or Long Island cosmetic surgery office. He will assess your health and take your medical history. He will make sure there is no underlying medical problem that may be causing your gynecomastia. He will discuss with you the male breast reduction process in detail, explain what is involved, the risks and the results. Dr. Greenberg will show you "before and after" photos and answer any questions you may have. He will determine if you are a good candidate for the male breast reduction procedure. Good candidates for gynecomastia correction have firm, elastic skin and are not obese or taking anabolic steroids.

Male Breast Reduction Surgery…

Under general or local anesthesia, an incision is made under the arm or on the edge of the areola. Excess glandular tissue and skin is removed and, if necessary, liposuction in the area will be performed to remove excess fat. The incisions are then closed and the chest will be bandaged. The male breast reduction surgery is generally completed within an hour and a half and will take place at Dr. Greenberg's Manhattan or Long Island fully accredited and licensed ambulatory surgery center.

Male Breast Reduction Recovery…

You will probably feel some discomfort for several days following your gynecomastia surgery. Dr. Greenberg may prescribe medications to make you feel more comfortable. You will be swollen and bruised and may have to wear a pressure garment for up to two weeks. You'll be able to start walking the day following surgery, but will need to avoid exercise or any other activity that can endanger the chest area, for up to a month. Final breast reduction surgery results will be visible in about three months.
